Caring for the collections

Caring for the collections

The Art Collections and Picture Gallery are looked after by curators, conservators, volunteers and staff members within and beyond the University community.

Meet the Culture Team

We have a team of freelance painting, paper, textile and frame conservators who help the Culture Team to care for the collections. We have an ongoing conservation programme to make sure that our works of art are displayed and stored in as best an environment as possible. This includes adding glazing to all works on display in our Picture Gallery and monitoring the temperature and humidity levels in our art store and in the gallery, which is within the Grade 1 listed Founder’s Building.

Our student volunteers play a crucial role in helping to make the Picture Gallery and Art Collections accessible and enjoyable to a wide variety of visitors. For more information, please visit our Volunteers page.
