Update on the start of teaching and travel to campus – 5 January 2021

  • Date05 January 2021

The new term for Royal Holloway students begins on Monday 11 January 2021 with teaching online for all Royal Holloway courses.*

The move to online only teaching follows the announcement on 30 December 2020 in the House of Commons by the Education Secretary, Gavin Williamson, and a subsequent letter to students from the Minister for Universities which instructs universities to delay the planned, staggered start of timetabled face-to-face, on campus, teaching.

We advised our students of the move to online teaching on 30 December and that further information would be provided w/c 4 January.

On Monday 4 January, the UK Prime Minister announced a national lockdown which has implications for return to term-time addresses.

UK students who have left their term time address for the holidays and have not yet returned to their term time address should, where possible, remain where they have spent the holidays.

International students who can rearrange their travel plans should do so and remain in their home nation, beginning their course online on 11 January 2021.  Where it is not practical or possible to rearrange travel plans, we will support students on arrival and through any required period of self-isolation.

Research students and staff, should work from home where it is possible to do so.

More information will be provided to our students and staff this week about what these announcements mean for the spring term.

* There is a Government exemption for Social Work courses
