Visit during Royal Holloway's Heritage Open Day

The Founder's Building, commissioned by entrepreneur Thomas Holloway, and opened by Queen Victoria in 1886, is modelled on the Château de Chambord in the Loire Valley. Its flamboyant architecture makes it one of the most impressive university buildings in the world.

This year, the new Emily Wilding Davison Building, located to the east side of the Founder's Building, will act as the welcome and information point for the day.

The building is the new home of the university's archive collections and also features a cafe for our visitors to enjoy.

The Picture Gallery will be open for viewing between 11am to 5pm with talks by the college curator, Dr Laura MacCulloch at 11.30am, 1pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm.

A series of tours will be available and tickets can be collected on the day from the information point from 11am:

  • Founder's Building and College History Tours - £2 (tickets apply)
    11.15am, 11.45am, 12.15pm, 12.45pm, 1.15pm, 2pm, 2.30pm, 3.15pm
  • College Archives free (tickets still apply) 11.30am, 12.30pm, 2.30pm, 3.30pm
  • Holloway Sanatorium, free (tickets still apply) which will also be open to visitors with tours at the following times: 12.30pm, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm.  Tickets for this tour must be collected from the information point in the Emily Wilding Davison Building at Royal Holloway on the day.

This event is part of the national Heritage Open Days weekends.
