  • Date03 March 2023

Professor Laura Spence has been awarded a prestigious Fellowship of the Academy of Social Sciences.

Laura Spence

Laura, a professor of Business Ethics from Department of Human Resource Management and Organisational Studies at Royal Holloway, University of London, said: “I am very excited to have been awarded a Fellowship of the Academy of Social Sciences.

“Even more so, because business ethics is a relatively new field within social sciences, so this is absolute recognition of what the discipline can offer within a social and moral role of business and the wider world.”

The Academy’s Fellowship is made up of distinguished individuals from academic, public, private and third sectors, across the full spectrum of the social sciences.

Through leadership, scholarship, applied research, policymaking, and practice, they have helped to deepen the understanding of, and address, some of the toughest challenges facing our society and the world.

All Academy Fellows are conferred following independent and robust peer review by the Academy’s Nominations Committee.

Laura's research interests relate to a wide range of management studies issues, critical corporate social responsibility, small business social responsibility, supply chain sustainability and a critique of Creating Shared Value.  She uses moral and social theory in her research, favouring qualitative and conceptual studies.

Laura has a particular interest in the place of gender and feminist perspectives in business ethics and corporate social responsibility research and practice. She is currently developing work on Small and medium sized enterprises and climate action, particularly in relation to NetZero.
