The University of Law (ULaw) has announced new agreements with Royal Holloway, University of London to guarantee Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) course places for the next generation of solicitors.

Students at Royal Holloway and other partner universities will be eligible to apply for an exclusive Future Lawyers Scholarship, from a fund of more than £250,000. Scholarships will be awarded based on a range of academic and widening access criteria, with the aim of improving access to the legal profession.

The new agreements offer a range of benefits for students, culminating in a guaranteed place on the ULaw SQE course of their choice after graduation. During their studies, ULaw will be supporting students with a range of workshops, including how to best tackle multiple choice and single best answer questions, as well as looking at the skills needed to pass SQE part two.

Additionally, ULaw will be providing guaranteed places for students at these universities on their Legal Practice Course options, for those who choose to qualify under the current tried and tested route.

Robert Jago, Head of Department of Law and Criminology at Royal Holloway, said: “This is very good news for our graduating students who wish to pursue a career as a solicitor, as it guarantees them a place on either a ULaw SQE prep course or the Legal Practice Course, depending on the path selected.

“Our students will also be able to apply for coveted scholarships which are designed to award both academic merit and widen access to the profession. I am delighted that Royal Holloway is joining a growing group of respected universities in partnering with ULaw in this way and look forward to a mutually beneficial relationship moving forward which provides excellent opportunities for our students as they plan for their future careers.”

Peter Crisp, Pro Vice Chancellor External, at ULaw, said: “We are delighted to be entering into further new partnerships following the success of current partnerships. We look forward to guiding future generations of lawyers through the forthcoming changes to qualifying as a solicitor and supporting them to achieve their ambitions.”

Other universities included in this partnership with ULaw are The London School of Economics, The University of Nottingham, The University of Bedfordshire, The University of Hull, and Teesside University.
