Dr Wenqing Liu, Reader in Nano-Electronics at Royal Holloway, has recently been awarded a prestigious Leverhulme Trust Senior Research Fellowship Grant.
Only seven fellowships are given out nationwide every year and this is the first time that an academic at Royal Holloway has won the award.
Dr Wenqing Liu’s project, ‘A solution for Robust Nano-Electronics: Topological Protection’ aims to develop a comprehensive understanding and fabrication strategy of ‘topological’ matters.
Her research has been developed on the periphery of spintronic low dimensional materials and systems, with a vision to advance new materials, architectures and mechanism to manipulate electrons spin, which can be ultimately used in sensors, trackback memory and logic devices.
Dr Wenqing Liu said: “I’m very delighted to receive this prestigious award, and that the Royal Academy of Engineering has recognised the importance of material development in complementary engineering.
“Whilst today’s quantum technology is rapidly taking off, research in quantum materials has been underinvested. This Fellowship will provide a valuable opportunity for us to tackle some of the emerging challenges in quantum matters and transfer fundamental science to life-changing technologies.”
The Leverhulme Trust, established in 1925, is a large national grant-making foundation in the United Kingdom where its resources are used to support scholarships for the purposes of research and education.
