The Greatest Needs fund is unrestricted and allows us the flexibility to allocate funds to where it can have the greatest impact.
Donations contribute to the funding of the College's priority areas including Scholarships, Careers and employability and Student opportunities. This fund also contributes to the support of several student-led projects and initiatives across campus - you can read about some of the recent initiatives funded below.

Community Action Volunteering
With money from the Greatest Needs fund, the Community Action Volunteering team was able to purchase equipment to help with many of their community projects.
The Love your Community project purchased litter pickers and handy-hoops, while ipads will help with their 'Silver Surfers' initiative which aims to help seniors learn how to navigate the internet and use computers.
We are also pleased to share that Community Action team was awarded the Queen's Award for outstanding Voluntary Service, the highest award given to voluntary service in the UK. This achievement is a result of their hardwork, dedication and the support they receive from supporters.
Insanity Radio
The Greatest Needs fund enabled Insanity Radio, our student station which has been broadcasting since the '90s, to purchase equipment for their new visualised radio project. This included cameras, a rackmount video switcher and an AD audio converter. Insanity volunteers now have access to the most recent technology to ensure their project becomes a reality.
'We have identified multiple areas where this would benefit our members and increase their employability by improving specific transferable skills [...]. The project will help our members gain greater insight into the profession, a fortified understanding of how to improve their shows, and strengthen their passion for radio!'
Healthy campus initiatives
With money from the Greatest Needs fund, the Sports and Active Lifestyle team have developed a number of projects on campus to encourage students to participate in sports and fitness activities, including the Colour Run and Learn-to-Swim programme.
The swim programme had great success teaching students of all levels a life-saving skill, and allowed a number of students to complete an instructor courses. Apart from providing valuable skills, and building confidence, the programme also received a lot of positive feedback with regards to work/life balance in a student's College experience.
'As I tend to keep myself, I don't do much besides studying, so having something to look forward to each week has kept me sane and happy.' Term 2 participant.
Sports Scholars
Support from alumni and friends enabled sports scholar, Ivan Antonov to compete at the University Games with Team GB's Ice Hockey team. This event is an Olympic-like elite event for University students.
