The Roman History Forum brings together teaching and research in Roman and Late Roman History at Royal Holloway. The Forum provides a collaborative space for shared teaching and research interests and innovation in the study and communication of Roman history.
With seven Roman historians working out of the Departments of Classics and History in the School of Humanities. the Forum represents a major national centre of research and teaching in Roman and late Roman history.
Staff from the Forum teach across the range of Roman history from the foundation of the city through to the early Medieval period. The modules we offer support teaching across various undergraduate programmes, including Ancient History, Classical Archaeology and Ancient History, History, Ancient and Medieval History, and Classical Studies.
At graduate level, staff contribute to MA programmes in History, Ancient History, Late Antique and Byzantine Studies and Medieval History. We also supervise PhD students across a range of interests, and welcome applications from new research students.
The diverse interests of the group cover Roman history in all its forms, with particular strengths in domestic and gender history, Christianity, and imperial systems. Our interests in late antique history especially overlap with and contribute to the work of the Hellenic Institute and colleagues who focus on Byzantine Studies.
