Netflix - All the Light We Cannot See
Aria came to Royal Holloway Classics from the University of Rhode Island with a prestigious Fulbright scholarship. Aria is a disability rights activist with a high profile in the US and wanted to study with us to understand better how to develop her voice in advocating for the blind and vision-impaired. The programme is designed to work with students and professionals seeking to develop and deploy rhetorical skills in various forms of advocacy and persuasion. Aria graduated as a student from the Masters programme in Rhetoric in 2021 and then answered a call for visually-impaired actor. The studio was anxious that the casting be authentic to bring realism to this starring role.
Not only is Aria's casting a spectacular example of success for one of our graduate students, but Aria and her work as an activist and campaigner is an example of how Classics is open to and of benefit to all.
