New publication for Royal Holloway Classics graduate

  • Date24 March 2021

Royal Holloway graduate Harry Triggs has achieved a long-held ambition by having his first article published in a post-graduate journal. Harry has completed a BA and an MA with Royal Holloway Classics department and is planning to return to the university this September to begin studying for a PhD.

The article, entitled 'How do the Galli of the Magna Mater cult occupy gendered space in Latin Literature?' has been published in the March edition of New Classicists and you can read it online here. It explores the way in which the concepts of space and spatial experience interact with gender and gender performance around the literary representation of the galli, eunuch devotees of the goddess Magna Mater. These are ideas that Harry was introduced to as part of his studies during the “Contemporary Approaches to Latin Literature” course he undertook in his third-year studies.

The article developed from a coursework essay written for that course, and was submitted to New Classicists, a journal designed for postgraduate submissions, following a suggestion from Dr Gloyn. Harry thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and would recommend that those with academic aspirations also take the opportunity to submit to research journals. He is grateful for all the support he received.
