Google Scholarship awarded to James Tapsell

  • Date20 May 2018

We are very pleased to announce that James Tapsell has been awarded a 2018 Google Europe Scholarship for Students with Disabilities.

James Tapsell

Google awards these scholarhips in partnership with EmployAbility, a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting students with disabilities while they pursue education and promising careers. In this round, nine such scholarships have been awarded across Europe, of which two to students sudying in the UK.

James is now in the third year of our MSci in Computer Science (Information Security). His performance has been consistently first-class across all modules; he has been awarded commendation letters at the end of the first and the second year for having achieved an overall average above 80%.

We offer students of his calibre several opportunities to excel, including additional challenges in the programming modules, which he took with exceptional results.

James has clearly demonstrated a passion for Computer Science not only in the way he engages in his studies but also in the way he always sought to go beyond what was being taught in class.

He has been awarded two UROP bursaries, a scheme that we offer to our students to work alongside our researchers in on-going research projects. One of the outcomes of his research is an application for a patent, which we hope will succeed very soon.

We also encourage our best students to enter competitions; James has taken advantage of our expertise in Information Security to enter competitions in that area as a member of teams composed mainly of PhD students, who consider him as a peer.

James is quite an accomplished individual. We are very proud of the recognition that he has received from Google, which is also a testimony to the support we provide all our students so that they can perform at their best.
