Dr Queenie Chan, a Planetary Scientist from the Department of Earth Sciences was filmed at BBC Studio in White City, London to discuss her research for an episode of the TV series ‘Solar System’ presented by Professor Brian Cox and airing this Autumn on BBC Two.
The episode is called 'Dark Worlds' and it explores the solar system’s ‘hidden realms between and beyond the planets, where countless worlds lie hiding in the darkness’.
During the episode, Professor Cox visits some of its least explored regions and finds out what lies beyond the reach of even the most powerful telescopes.
Dr Queenie Chan gives an insight on studying meteorites, asteroids and comets, and discusses why space exploration missions, in particular, sample return space missions, are so important in helping us understand about the formation of, and diversity in, our solar system.
Dr Chan said “It has been such a valuable opportunity to be able to speak about the latest development we have in our planetary science community, to share the excitement we have on the latest space exploration missions, and to take part in the production of this episode alongside so many great scientists and researchers around the world.”
The series explores the spectacular wonders and mysterious natural phenomena of the solar system, and episode two featuring Dr Queenie Chan is currently available to watch on BBC iPlayer at the following link:
