At Royal Holloway we are dedicated to creating a bright future for our community of electronic engineers, creating technical solutions for an evolving world.
The products of electronic engineering are all around us in our daily lives, creating a demand for excellent engineers with a creative passion to enhance and deliver more sustainable technology.
We invite you to join a young, dynamic and highly creative department, ranked in the top 25 UK Electronic Engineering departments (Complete University Guide, 2024). We are based in a new £20m state-of-the-art building, bringing together a growing community of staff and students, an expanding portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, and research groups that are addressing exciting future technology. Our staff bring their research expertise to their teaching, and our curriculum is informed by our excellent industrial links, ensuring our degree courses are designed to meet market needs and our graduates are highly employable.
Creativity first, Science follows
We place an emphasis on creativity at the heart of all great engineering inventions. Project-led activities are at the heart of our teaching to encourage entrepreneurship and group working in all stages, with placements and year in industry options available to develop real-world skills and experience. We connect research and teaching in unique areas of communications, music and media technology, power systems, nanotechnology, systems computing and signal processing.
IET Accreditation
As a new department, we are delighted that our Electronic Engineering BEng and MEng degrees (with and without a year in industry) have received full accreditation by The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) until 2026. IET accreditation involves a thorough assessment of our laboratory facilities, industrial influence, teaching curriculum and learning outcomes against internationally defined standards of quality and academic rigour.
Accredited status means that graduates of Royal Holloway’s BEng and MEng (Hons) Electronic Engineering degrees fulfil the educational requirements for registering as a Chartered Engineer (CEng) following a few years of employment. It's reassuring to know that our degrees are acknowledged as being appropriate for the training of tomorrow’s chartered engineers; something we are very proud of and firmly believe in.
