Dragons' Den 2020

Student showcase impresses Dragons' Den

  • Date23 January 2021

Year 1 and 2 Electronic Engineering students presented their work in the department's annual Dragons' Den contest at Royal Holloway.

Year 1 and 2 Electronic Engineering students had been busy working for several weeks on their projects. They were tasked with creating an Arduino based Multi-Mode 21st Birthday Party Centre piece (Year 1) and a LabVIEW-based automated video image processing solution to detect viral presence in patients (Year 2). Looking back at the previous student work and considering that there were some practical lockdown conditions to navigate, the challenges faced by the students were even greater this year.

We're delighted that our students rose to the challenge so successfully! The work was done, models were 3-D printed, laser cut, glued, the electronic circuits were built, and microcontrollers programmed. Finally, our students demonstrated and defended their work in front of an online industry experts panel - our very own Dragons' Den to impress.

Once again our students took the opportunity to develop their team working, electronic circuit design and programming skills, and had fun in the process!
