Outstanding student satisfaction confirmed in NSS 2022

The National Student Survey (NSS) 2022 results confirm once again the outstanding level of satisfaction with teaching and overall experience among students in the Department of Geography at Royal Holloway, University of London.

We are delighted to see high scores across our undergraduate degree portfolio, including 92% for overall satisfaction, with 100% of our Physical Geography students agreeing that staff are good at explaining things and 95% agreeing their course is intellectually stimulating.

The NSS 2022 results maintain our remarkable record of positive student assessment year on year since the NSS evaluation process began in 2007, retaining our place among the top ten departments nationally.

Notably, the Department of Geography pairs outstanding student satisfaction with research excellence, having also been ranked 5th in the UK’s most recent national ‘research excellence framework’.*

Head of Geography, Professor Danielle Schreve commented:

“Geography students here at Royal Holloway benefit from a special combination of great teaching and learning with world-leading research, within a friendly and supportive intellectual community.

These NSS results are testament to that special combination.”

The NSS is an annual, independent survey of final year students carried out by the Office for Students on behalf of the UK higher education funding and regulatory bodies. The results reflect the responses to survey questions covering teaching on the course, learning opportunities, assessment and feedback, academic support, organisation and management, learning resources, learning community, student voice and students' union.
