The Department of Health Studies at Royal Holloway University of London is starting a unique MSc (pre-registration) Occupational Therapy course this September that will emphasize the role of occupational therapists in sustainability, global health, and disaster management. We are excited to announce that we have received approval from the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT), and we eagerly await the arrival of our first cohort this month. We have been recognized by the RCOT as pioneers and are committed to supporting our students in becoming competent occupational therapists who can contribute to health and care systems at local, national, and global levels.
Occupational therapy is a person-centered allied health profession focused on promoting health and well-being through occupation. The main goal of occupational therapy is to help people participate in everyday activities. Occupational therapists achieve this by working with individuals and communities to enhance their ability to engage in the activities they want, need, or are expected to do, or by adjusting the occupation or the environment to better support their engagement (WFOT, 2012). We are truly excited to support such a great healthcare profession and start our new Occupational Therapy course.
We extend our sincere thanks to our practice partners at Surrey ICB NHS Trust, Surrey and Borders Partnerships NHS Trust, Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, CSH Surrey, and many others for this outstanding partnership and collaboration in developing this new course. Thanks for their extensive and varied placement offers for this course.
