Department Prizes

Each year the department awards some of our highest achieving students and those who have made a real impact to the community and reputation of the department.

The J A Paterson Prize is awarded to the Best 1st year History student and the Best 1st year Joint Honours student.

The I G Powell Memorial Prize is award to the Best 2nd year History student.

The Gillian Harris Prize is awards to the student who has prepared the Best Independent Research Essay. 

The Nina Boyle Prize is awarded to the Best 2nd year Modern and Contemporary History student.

The History Prize for Excellence is awarded to the Best Overall Single Honours Graduate.

The Justin Champion Prize is awarded to the Best Overall Joint Honours Graduate.

The Jonathan Riley-Smith Prize is awarded to the student who prepared the Best Dissertation. 

The Francis Robinson Prize is awarded for the Best Masters Dissertation

The student who produces the Best Historiography Essay and the student who performs Best during the Historiography Exam receive prizes. 

We also give a number of Head of Department Prize's every year for a students contribution to the department.
