Congratulations to recently-completed Royal Holloway History PhD student Layli Uddin.
Congratulations to recently-completed Royal Holloway History PhD student Layli Uddin for her ‘Honourable Mention’ as runner up for the 2016 S. S. Pirzada Dissertation Prize (awarded for the best Ph.D. dissertation on Pakistan, or the region that is now Pakistan, in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Visual & Fine Arts, Law, and Public Health by the Institute for South Asia Studies, University of California Berkeley).
The prize judges were so impressed by the brilliance of Layli’s thesis—In the land of eternal Eid: Maulana Bhashani and the Political Mobilisation of Peasants and Lower-Class Urban Workers in East Pakistan, c. 1930s-1971—that they decided to create this new category of ‘Honourable Mention’!
