Sounding the Spaces of Historical Experience

  • Date10 April 2024

'Sounding the Spaces of Historical Experience: Remapping the Cinema of the Holocaust' will encourage participants to discuss film, place and adapting and re-using archival content in contemporary cinematic approaches to the Holocaust.

On 16 and 17 May 2024, Dr Simone Gigliotti and Professor James Williams (Centre for Visual Cultures) will be hosting a two-day event, sponsored by the HRI and HARI (Humanities and Arts Research Institute at RHUL), and in collaboration with Modern Films. On Thursday 16 May they will hold a screening of the new documentary - Occupied City - directed by Steve McQueen, based on the 2019 book 'Atlas of an Occupied City: Amsterdam 1940-1945' by Bianca Stigter. This will be followed by an all-day symposium on Friday 17 May. More details, including sign-up, will be made available soon. Keep an eye out for updates.
