Dr Irene Antonopoulos presented her work at this year’s European Environmental Law Forum (EELF) Annual Conference, which was hosted by Bournemouth University.

Irene’s presentation was titled: ‘Can human rights language assist in combating climate change? An examination of the jurisprudence of the ECtHR’. In anticipation of the European Court of Human Rights’ decision on the first climate change case to reach the Court, Irene discussed the case law that determined the relationship between human rights and environmental protection.

Irene argued that the Court should be inspired by the novel interpretations of the European Convention on Human Rights by national courts in the context of climate change, for this rare opportunity to redefine the relationship between environmental protection and human rights obligations.
