Dr Jenny Korkodeilou has been invited to chair and deliver a LEX (Law, Gender and Sexuality Research Network) affiliated talk on non-consensual condom removal (NCCR) as part of a themed roundtable (‘The Pleasure is All Mine: Sex, Sexual Violence and the Law’) for the 7th Global Meeting on Law and Society that will take place both online and in-person in Lisbon, Portugal between 13th-16th July, 2022.

Under the thematic umbrella of the 7th Global Meeting on Law and Society (Rage, Reckoning, and Remedy) the roundtable will examine and critically discuss topics such as non-fatal strangulation, rape law, image-based abuse and non-consensual condom removal (NCCR) (or else known as stealthing) through the lenses of legal reform, consent, power, exploitation and control.

Professor Heather Douglas (The University of Melbourne, Australia) and Associate Professor Robin Fitzgerald (University of Queensland, Australia) will consider consent, non-fatal strangulation and sex within the context of domestic violence through the accounts of lawyers and domestic violence support workers. PhD candidate Marthe Goudsmit (Exeter College, Oxford University) will focus on image-based abuse and conceptualise it as a form of sexual slavery that infringes the right to sexual autonomy. PhD candidate Megan Johnson (Bristol University) will closely look commonly held stereotypical perceptions in rape English law in terms of gender and race taking an intersectional approach. Finally, Dr Jenny Korkodeilou will problematise stealthing as a crime and a form of rape by unpacking the underlying gendered (patriarchal) assumptions related to intimacy and entitlement(s) that often facilitate and/or enable it.
