PhD Studentships in the School of Law

The School of Law is pleased to announce funded studentships for doctoral research in any area of Law, Criminology, Sociology , Forensic Psychology or Social Work.

We welcome all proposals but are especially interested in applications aligned within the following areas (which represent our primary research themes): Rights and Freedoms; Health and Medicine; Risk, Harm and Punishment; Families and Children.

History PhD Scholarship

Studentships cover a fee waiver (home or  EU) and a £16,777 per annum bursary to assist with living expenses for 3 years, together with additional departmental research/conference funding support. In return successful applicants may be expected to undertake seminar teaching and/or adminstrative tasks for up to 4 hours per week across 20 teaching weeks.

Successful applicants will also be expected to contribute to the activities of the postgraduate research community in our multidisciplinary School of Law, and to one or more of the research groups around which the School's research is focussed.

Qualifications and Eligibility

Candidates must:

  • Have a first or good upper-second class honours degree or equivalent
  • Have (or be near completion of) a Masters qualification (distinction or merit) which includes research training
  • Excellent communication skills

 

Start Date

The preferred start date is September 2019.

  • A research proposal (6 pages max), which includes a brief literature review, resulting research questions, and proposed methods to answering these questions, together with a statement about how you meet the eligibility criteria
  • A current CV
  • A sample of your written work

The closing date for applications is midnight on Friday 31st  May 2019.
