In recent weeks a number of Royal Holloway law students have made some significant extra-curricular and personal career achievements.

Following on from the recent awards given to our final year law students Melissa Mitchell, Dominique Backhouse, Farkhanda Ali and Lily Hossini (pictured above) for their work with a housing charity, there have been more notable student achievements.

Alex Mullen, who is a final year LLB Law student, has been awarded a scholarship by Gray’s Inn to study the Bar Professional Training Course.

Anita Sadeghi Niaraki, who is also a final year LLB Law student, has been awarded an Advocacy Scholarship by BPP University London, to study the Bar Professional Training Course.

Jordan Masters (pictured below), who is a second year LLB Law student, has achieved one of the 23 places offered by Middle Temple’s very competitive ‘Access to the Bar’ scheme. This scheme is open to students from backgrounds from backgrounds which do not traditionally encourage aspirations for a career at the Bar. Successful students are awarded one week’s experience in Chambers and one weeks marshalling experience (marshalling means shadowing a judge in court).

Oliver Snelgrove and Charles Brook (pictured below, left) who are second year LLB Law students, recently came second in the national student negotiation competition, run by the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution.

Oliver Snelgrove and Yasmin Ilham, who is a second year LLB Law with Criminology student, have also progressed to the OUP-ICCA Mooting Competition semi-finals, which will take place later in April.

In an earlier round of the OUP-ICCA competition, Sarah Bassuni – who is a final year LLB Law student and the President of the Royal Holloway Student Law Society – also competed on behalf of Royal Holloway.

The School of Law's 2019 internal mooting final was held at Senate House, London, on April 10 2019. It was judged by Lawrence Power QC; in previous years our final has been judged by Lord Carnwath JSC and Judge John Price. This year, first-year LLB student William Taylor (picture below, second left) won the competition, with another first-year student Mabel Clarke and Jordan Masters the runners-up. The judge extended an offer of a mini-pupillage to all three finalists.

Daniel Lennon-Woodward and Athina Mavrou (pictured below), both of whom are final year LLB Law students, represented the University in the final of the national client interviewing competition, which is sponsored by the Law Society of England and Wales.

In addition to this, the School of Law continues to run its own internal competitions in mooting, negotiation, and client interviewing.
