PhD scholarship on the theme of social justice

The multidisciplinary Department of Law and Criminology at Royal Holloway is inviting students to apply for a full-time scholarship for doctoral research on the theme of social justice.

Law Justice

The Department of Law and Criminology invites applications for PhD research on the theme of social justice, from candidates with excellent credentials. Applications are invited that are relevant to any or a combination of the disciplines represented in the Department of Law and Criminology. Candidates need to explain in their proposal how it connects to social justice and which of the Departmental staff might have the relevant subject matter expertise to supervise the work.

Qualifications and Eligibility

Candidates must:

  • Have a first or upper-second class honours degree;
  • Have a Masters-level qualification (or be nearing completion) in social sciences (e.g. criminology, forensic psychology, sociology) or law;
  • Have excellent interpersonal communication skills.

Application Procedure

In order to be considered for this scholarship, please submit

  • A 1-2 page statement outlining your interest in PhD study in the Department of Law and Criminology, possible supervisors, the relevance of your proposed research to social justice, and your commitment to the aims and values of the Legal Advice Centre;
  • A copy of your undergraduate and postgraduate transcripts;
  • A current CV;
  • A proposal (up to 2,000 words) setting out how you would develop the envisaged research project.

These materials will need to be submitted directly to Dr Emily Glorney, Departmental Lead for Postgraduate Research (Emily.Glorney@rhul.ac.uk).

The closing date for applications is Friday 25th June 2021 5pm GMT. Interviews are expected to take place in early July.

Students can start in either September 2021 or January 2022.
