Choosing the “right” university is an exciting and daunting experience. To help make a final choice on which university and course to apply for, prospective applicants rely on feedback and advice from friends and family, on their independent research and on virtual and in-person open day events.
One of the most common ways to get informative, unbiased and up-to-date information on the quality and ranking of the courses offered by UK universities is to rely on league tables. There are three major league tables: the Complete University Guide, The Times/Sunday Times and the Guardian University Guide.

The results in the Complete University Guide 2022 reflect the efforts made in recent years by Royal Holloway, University of London, to establish itself as one of the leading institutions in the world for the quality of its research as well as the students’ experience. In particular, the Department of Law and Criminology is now ranked 35th out of the 104 law departments and schools assessed this year by the Guide in the UK. This result marks an increase of 54 (!) positions over last year’s ranking.
The Department of Law and Criminology ranks 1st overall in graduate prospects. This is a key measure of the success in employability or further study of graduates completing their first degree. It means that our graduates are much more likely to find a rewarding, graduate-level job after the completion of their degree.
Another key area where the Department of Law and Criminology is performing exceptionally well is student satisfaction, meaning that current students enjoy the educational experience, services and facilities offered by the Department and the College.
In commenting on these results, Robert Jago, Head of the Department of Law and Criminology at Royal Holloway, University of London, said: “I am so pleased to see these results which reflect the continued commitment of my colleagues and I to the student experience. From our teaching to our student support to our focus on employability, students are offered a rounded university experience and these improved results demonstrate that.”
