Discussions about refugees in Europe have been prominent in the public discourse since the conflict in Syria.
The event will be a debate from three perpsectives from economics, sociology and activism about the effects of migration on host countries.
In the first part, Prof. Arnaud Chevalier (Economics) will discuss how refugees affects local taxation, focusing on the experience of Germany at the end of world war II.
In the second part, Dr Mastoureh Fathi (Sociology) will present results from her work on refugees as professionals and more generally the integration of female refugees - who are from countries where women have a very different role.

Finally, an activist, Rabia Nassimi will present findings from wroking with women refugees in Saturday classes at Afghan and Central Asian Association in London (ACAA).
Following these presentations, a general discussion with the public will follow. The aim of the event is not only to disseminate the results of academic research but also to engage the public on the debate of the role of refugees on society, and foster a conversation between refugees and the public.
