Magna Carta – the Law and Criminology Gazette (named after the university's cultural and local significance) is intended to service the needs of many students by acting as a platform to publish a range of content semi-annually for the Department; from academic submissions from students to industry insight. It serves as a hub to know everything about the various areas of law, what our students are achieving, important tips/dates from the legal profession, jobs opportunities and departmental/society initiatives. We aim to cater to all across law, criminology and sociology.

Types of articles
1) Feature Article- Word count: 1100 - 1500 words
This is an in-depth piece of work that deals with a particular topic. This should not be confused as an opportunity to give your opinion. It is an academic exploration/analysis of your chosen topic. In text citations and works cited as per OSCOLA.
2) Opinion Piece- Word Count: 800 - 1000 words
This is a piece which should mainly reflect your opinion about the topic. You are encouraged to explore both sides when presenting it. Any statistics or direct quotes should be referenced. In text citations and works cited as per OSCOLA.
3) Case Comment- Word Count: 1000 - 1200 words
This is an extended commentary on a particular court case. It should be a combination of description and analysis. At the same time, the judgement must be analysed and its socio - political impacts discussed. In text citations and works cited as per OSCOLA. Examples can be found on Westlaw.
4) Work Insight- Word Count: 300 - 350 words
This is your opportunity to share with the school your endeavours. These are pieces made to inform the readers about work related matters. We want to spread knowledge to those considering applying for similar jobs and give recognition to people who have completed it. These do not have to be within the legal sector.
