Mathematics staff joined the STEM community from around the world to condemn racism on 10th June 2020.
We postponed our seminar celebrating the launch of CANTA to express our solidarity with scientists from around the world participating in #strike4blacklives and #shutdownSTEM on 10th June 2020.
We, at the Mathematics Department in Royal Holloway, recognise that there is systemic racism prevalent in our society and that people from diverse backgrounds do experience bias, both conscious and unconscious.
We aim to promote inclusion and celebrate our diversity.
Our CANTA Launch seminar will now take place at 4 PM (BST) on 11th June 2020. Prof Lillian Price from Duke University will speak about
On some open questions in number theory: from the perspective of moments
Abstract: Many questions in number theory can be phrased loosely in the following terms: “how often can this function take large values?” We will talk about some open questions in number theory where we want to show that the answer is “never.” In particular, we will discuss some interesting situations where we can upgrade information that a function “rarely takes large values” to information that it “never takes large values.” This perspective allows us to see some new connections between open conjectures in number theory.
Please contact Dr Martin Widmer for the Zoom link to the seminar.
