Voice
Tim Travers-Brown performs as a Counter-tenor soloist throughout Europe, Japan and the USA with Europe’s finest Period Instrument Ensembles and Directors, as well as many of the UK’s prominent Choral Societies. In concert, engagements include Bach’s Christmas Oratorio in Tel Aviv (Israel Chamber Orchestra/Kraemer), St. Matthew Passion London’s Cadogan Hall (Sir John Eliot Gardiner), Cantatas with The London Bach Singers/Feinstein, B minor Mass and Handel’s Dixit Dominus with The English Concert in Malta, Purcell’s Ode for St. Cecilia in Aldeburgh and Poland (Paul McCreesh), Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms with The Bach Choir (David Hill), Handel’s Belshazzar in Ewersbach (Hannover Hofkapelle), Solomon with Sinfonia Verdi/Lucas and Saul in Glasgow with John Butt.
In opera he has played the title role in Gluck’s Orfeo (with Peter Holman and Emily van Evera), ‘Didymus’ (Handel’s Theodora at Dartington International Summer School), cover of ‘Creonte’ in Steffani’s Niobe (Hengelbrock) and ‘The Spirit’ in Purcell’s Dido&Aeneas (Hogwood) at The Royal Opera House, ‘Mopsa’ and ensemble in productions of Purcell’s Fairy Queen and King Arthur (New London Consort and Armonico Touring Opera).
He has also sung with specialized Ensembles, including The New London Consort at Bridgewater Hall, Madrid and Barcelona, The Binchois Consort in English, French Polyphony from the 15th and 16th Centuries (US Tour), The Musicke Companye at The Wigmore Hall, Projects with the scholar Peter Holman in works from Lully’s Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme to Vivaldi Nisi Dominus, The Dunedin Consort in Bach’s Actus Tragicus (Scottish Tour), Barokk Solistene in Monteverdi’s Vespers (Norway) with The Tallis Scholars in New York and with Exaudi and Ensemble Intercontemporain in Poppe’s Interzone at Cite de la Musique.
Recitals include The International Early Music Network Exhibition with David Miller and Jacob Heringman (BBC Radio 3 ‘Early Music Show’) and pianist Jeremy Filsell (Windsor and London). Media performances include Handel’s Messiah for BBC Radio 2, a recital disc of 20th Century British Song ‘The Frostbound Wood’, Bach’s Cantatas with ‘Bach Collegium Japan’ (BIS), ‘Handel and Companye’ with the ‘Musicke Companye’ (Intim) and ‘Music for Henry V and the House of Lancaster (Binchois Consort). Tim has been a member of the choirs of St. Paul’s Cathedral, St. Bride’s Fleet Street, and Temple Church, and is currently a Lay Clerk in St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.
For the past 20 years, Tim has been on the staff of Music Faculties in a number of secondary schools, at Trinity Laban Conservatoire for 10 years as a Coach and Voice technician, and Director of the Early Music Vocal Ensemble, and currently at Eton College, Royal Holloway and privately.
