Dr Daniel Elphick to take part in Philharmonia environmentalism panel

Dr Dan Elphick, Teaching Fellow in Music, will be speaking at the Royal Festival Hall in London this weekend as part of a panel on environmentalism and music, and the role of musicians in the climate emergency.

Dr Daniel Elphick, Teaching Fellow in Music, will be speaking as part of the Philharmonia Orchestra's 'Human/Nature' series at Royal Festival Hall in London this weekend as part of a panel on environmentalism and music and the role of musicians in the climate emergency.

The panel on Sunday 3 October features several distinguished speakers, including arts leaders and environmental activists. 

Dan's research focuses on music and politics in Russia and eastern-Europe from the 19th century to the present, and he will be speaking about Stravinsky's 'Rite of Spring', ahead of the Philharmonia Orchestra's concert in the evening.

Rites: Santtu conducts Stravinsky
Sunday 3 October, 7.30pm, Royal Festival Hall
Santtu-Matias Rouvali conducts the Philharmonia Orchestra in Stravinsky's rhythmic and powerful masterpiece The Rite of Spring. And charismatic violinist Pekka Kuusisto is the soloist in the UK premiere of Bryce Dessner's Violin Concerto, inspired by the Camino de Santiago. This concert is part of the Philharmonia's Human / Nature series, exploring music inspired by the natural world, and the role of the arts in addressing environmental issues.
