2020 has had an incomparable impact on our lives and the music world. Even within this changed landscape, we at the Department of Music were determined to present a comparable International Concert Series to Royal Holloway, showcasing the varied talent of our students and students but also bringing internationally renowned musicians to the College, albeit virtually this year.

For 2020-21, we are back and better than ever with more student and staff opportunities through the creation of 'The Platform', a new, open opportunity for the community at the Department of Music to share with you what makes us so special. From archival performances to livestreamed gigs, forums to share ideas to online lectures, this series will be the heart of our 2020-21 offering and giving you an insight into our varied work.
Alongside our popular Midweek Music and Pocket Concert Series, we have also nurtured our connections with three international music organisations and bringing them on-board as our 2020-21 Concert Partners: Young Classical Artists Trust, Chamber Music on Valentia and CoMA - Contemporary Music for all. Through specially commissioned digital concerts, we have partnered to bring you a varied line-up of events from Elgar and Straus with violinist Mayumi Kanagawa to exquisite contemporary works with Darragh Morgan.
Looking ahead to spring 2021, we are looking forward to welcoming violist Shiry Raskovsky, jazz musicians Tom Taylor and Matt Herd, and our ensembles-in-residence, Tippett Quartet and CHROMA ensemble, to the series plus our annual Alumni Recital and Chamber Music Showcase. 2021 will also hopefully see a selection of our acclaimed ensembles return to the stage.
All in all, this season represents the work that has steadily been increasing in recent years as we showcase our students and the range of music performance we programme and encourage; from jazz to world music, orchestral performance to solo oboe as well as presenting performers from the international stage.”
