New album release for Rebecca Miller

New album release for Rebecca Miller

  • Date08 March 2024

Our Director of Orchestras, Rebecca Miller releases a new disc featuring four world premiere recording works with Signum Classics.

The new album, 'Dorothy Howell: Orchestral Works', features Rebecca Miller as conductor with the BBC Concert Orchestra, and is released on International Women's Day on 8 March 2024. Until now these works have rarely been performed, and the majority of works are unpublished and only exist in manuscript form. The album features Howell's orchestral works: Humoresque, The Rock, Three Divertissements, Lamia, and Koong Shee, several of which Rebecca has performed with our own Royal Holloway Symphony Orchestra since her arrival in 2015.

About the release, Rebecca comments: "I hope this album can help to revive Dorothy’s music, to help her live on, to finally have the recognition she deserved and never received, and to secure this music’s rightful place in the centre of the classical music repertoire."

Reviews

“Rebecca Miller proves a sure hand directing the well-drilled BBC Concert Orchestra with flair and imagination. The recording, as noted above, is commendably detailed without being in any way anaemic.” – MusicWebInternational

“This disc is just the shot in the arm that Howell’s music deserves, and it’s good to hear the BBC Concert Orchestra – whose future has recently been the subject of a BBC review – in such fine form: let’s hope the suits in high places hear it! The recording, made in St Jude-on-the-Hill, Hampstead in June 2022, is warmly resonant but still sufficiently focussed for orchestral detail to tell, and there are booklet notes by Leah Broad. Highly recommended!” – Europadisc
