Métier Records is to release a new recording of piano music from Iran by composers Amir Mahyar Tafreshipour and Hormoz Farhat, performed by Royal Holloway's Mary Dullea.
The recording, which was engineered and produced by Adaq Khan in London, will be released in winter 2020-21 on the label, which is an imprint of Divine Art Recordings.
The composers represent two different generations. Amir Mahyar Tafreshipour was born in 1974, and his works include the first ever Harp Concerto by an Iranian composer (commissioned by the BBC Symphony Orchestra) and the first Iranian opera with an English libretto, The Doll Behind the Curtain, which premiered in London in 2015. Hormoz Farhat is perhaps the most senior Iranian composer of 'international' art music. He was born in 1930, became a student of Darius Milhaud, and was the first Iranian to write a formal piano sonata.
Dr Mary Dullea is Reader and Director of Performance at Royal Holloway. She performs internationally as a soloist and chamber musician, and has recorded numerous CD releases. Her piano trio, Fidelio Trio, are passionate advocates for piano trio repertoire around the world.
