The Royal School of Church Music commissioned a new anthem in honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The piece is by Thomas Hewitt jones and sets words from the Queen’s speeches over the years. The Choir was asked to make the official recording of this and the single is available from Signum Records with the video on YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsdrTn1Zg2U

It’s currently being promoted by Classic FM as one of: “15 of the best classical music pieces for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee”

Dan Locklair Requiem

The Choir’s latest release features the Requiem Mass of American composer Dan Locklair. This beautiful piece was recorded in Christchurch Priory with the Southern Sinfonia and Martin Baker at the organ. The soloists also include Royal Holloway music graduates Hilary Cronin, Elisabeth Paul and Christopher Willoughby.

The first American review stated “There has been a buzz in the air about the recording of Dan Locklair’s Requiem in the months leading up to its release in March of 2022, and it is a privilege to be among the first to review it”

Flor Peeters Choral Music

July sees the release of a new album of the choral music of Belgian composer Flor Peeters. Recorded in Buckfast Abbey in September, this features the Choir with Onyx Brass in a new arrangement by Rupert Gough of the Missa Festiva, as well as many pieces recorded for the first time.

The Choir of Royal Holloway is made up of 24 choral scholars who form our Chapel Choir, led by our Director of Choral Music and College Organist, Rupert Gough. You can read more information about the Choir, including upcoming performances, on their website: https://www.chapelchoir.co.uk/
