Professor Julie Brown joined Professor Jonathan Cross (Oxford) and conductor Jonathan Berman in a pre-concert discussion at the Southbank Centre to mark the 150th anniversary year of Arnold Schoenberg, pioneering figure of the early 20th-century avant-garde.

Presented by London Sinfonietta, the concert was ‘Schoenberg: Reshaping Tradition’.  Professor Brown is author of Schoenberg and Redemption, a study of Schoenberg’s step into atonality in 1908, though on Sunday also spoke about the composer’s flirtation with film and wider impact on Hollywood film music.
