Hot off the press, already in our bookshops, comes The Cambridge Companion to Wagner’s ‘Der Ring des Nibelungen’, edited by Mark Berry and Nicholas Vazsonyi, with chapters from two members of the Royal Holloway Music Department: Mark Berry (‘Characters in the “world” of the Ring) and J.P.E. Harper-Scott (‘Form and structure’).

Previous Cambridge Companions on music have tended to concentrate on composers, repertoires, instruments, and so on, but Wagner’s epic tetralogy has a volume to itself. Written by an international team of contributors covering topics from ‘Greek tragedy and myth’ to ‘The Ring in cinematic and popular culture’ and ‘Gender and sexuality’ to ‘Specters of Nazism’, it offers, like the Ring itself, something for everyone. Available immediately in hardcover and paperback, and as an e-book, this Companion speaks both to those new to Wagner as well as to seasoned fans.

The book is available to purchase here.
