Study and the School of Humanities

Study and the School of Humanities

The School of Humanities is home to four Departments and a wealth of exciting degree programmes. Whether you are undertaking studies in Creative Writing or Archaeology, in History or Hispanic Studies, you will develop the core Humanities skills of critical thinking, reflective practice, and the development of argument through discussion and debate.

We support our students throughout their learning journey. Our Year 1 curricular design supports transition to university study through equalising knowledge and skills to ensure you are well-supported and ready for the learning challenges and stimuli of your degree study. We produce graduates who are confident and equipped for their next step by embedding skills acquisition within our curricular and assessment design and providing employability experiences as part of our taught curricula.

We offer the opportunity to develop and extend your Learning Opportunities. The School of Humanities champions interdisciplinary practice through offering degree programmes such as BA Liberal Arts and a number of popular Joint Honours programmes. Further, all Humanities students on any degree programme are given the opportunity to take modules of study in disciplines outside of their degree. Further Learning Opportunities allow you to pause your studies to undertake a work placement, or study abroad.

We are a close-knit community. During your time with us, you will have a Personal Tutor who you will see regularly to reflect on your progress in your degree studies. The School and Departments offer a rich programme of co-curricular and community events, and the university offers a range of services, opportunities and enrichment activities.  Your time with us will deliver a whole university experience to complement your subject learning.
