Professor Livesey has served as Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation) since May 2023 and was Head of the Department of English between 2020 and 2023. She was also previously School of Humanities Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Lead and Deputy Executive Dean.

As Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation), Professor Livesey will bring vital strategic insight and leadership to the ambitious plans for research and knowledge exchange at Royal Holloway articulated in the new University strategy, RH2030s

Professor Ruth Livesey said: “Working with brilliant colleagues on bold and transformative projects at Royal Holloway so far has been such a privilege. Our research and knowledge exchange activity holds true to our social purpose: we value daring and curious work that looks to the future and enables positive change now, in our local and global communities.

"Sharing that work with students and colleagues through research-infused learning opportunities and a truly supportive, inclusive, and sustainable research culture is core to who we are. I’m delighted to have this opportunity to shape and support it as a proudly research-intensive university into the 2030s.”

Professor Julie Sanders, Royal Holloway’s Vice-Chancellor and Principal, said: “This is an exciting new role for us that demonstrates the extent of our ambitions for research and innovation at Royal Holloway, and the sense of purpose underpinning them.

"It builds on a proud history of research and innovation but with resolute focus on the future needs of society in local, national and global contexts. We’re delighted that Ruth will be extending the outstanding collaborative work she is already doing in this space with us, and look forward to seeing it grow and evolve.”
