At Royal Holloway, we are committed to the RH2030s strategy, which marks a significant milestone in our journey as a University of Social Purpose. The strategy prepares us for future challenges, helping us to develop the university as a place of safety, solidarity and empowerment for people seeking sanctuary. Our vision is to be a forward-thinking University, committed to enabling outstanding educational student experience; research and innovation; and local and global engagement with partners to drive social change for a better, more inclusive future. We are currently striving towards accreditation as a University of Sanctuary.
We extend a safe haven to displaced students and academics, as well as supporting local refugee communities and support organisations through collaborative projects and student volunteering. We take an active role in research and teaching about refugee and forced migration issues, including learning about the issues and obstacles faced by people seeking sanctuary in pursuing higher education.
Royal Holloway has a deep-rooted history of standing with those in need, a tradition that continues today as we confront the challenges faced by millions displaced by war, persecution, climate change, or the violation of their fundamental rights. We are working hard to ensure that we focus on ground-breaking research to educate the world as well as providing funding to support scholarships for students that would not otherwise be able to study.
Through our Sanctuary Scholarships, we provide not only safety but also the opportunity for these individuals to rebuild their lives and continue their pursuit of knowledge. This commitment is more than an extension of our legacy; it is a testament to the enduring values that define Royal Holloway - a university dedicated to making a difference in the world, one life at a time.
