Volunteering information

Royal Holloway Volunteering began as Community Action in 2002 as part of the Active Community Fund and has grown exponentially. Since 2002 the department has supported thousands of students to pursue excellent opportunities in the local community. Many of these students have graduated and become leaders in the third sector, as well as other industries.

Royal Holloway Volunteering is now a fully-fledged part of the University, championed by senior management and working across multiple departments to ensure that as many students as possible get the chance to increase their skills, meet new people and make a difference through community engagement.

Royal Holloway Volunteering is an award winning team, receiving the Times Higher Education award for “Outstanding Contribution to the Local Community” in 2015, and the “Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service” in 2017.

Volunteering team leaders

Team Leaders are ambassadors for volunteering across the college. As well as helping to organise our recruitment events and recruitment activities, they also support our involvement in national events and initiatives such as Student Volunteering Week, #iwill week and other campaigns!

Volunteering project leaders

Each of Royal Holloway Volunteering’s 16 Social Action projects is led by 2-4 Project Leaders. These students are responsible for recruiting volunteers, organising sessions and actively working with our community partners. Our projects give students the opportunity to develop their own interests and ideas, while working in a real world environment.

Volunteering response team

The Royal Holloway Volunteering Response Team is specially recruited for last minute volunteering opportunities.  Response team members are given priority to assist with various one-off events throughout the year with our community partners. They respond to short notice community requests and react quickly when help is required.
