Applying with UCAS Extra

Applying with UCAS Extra

Extra is open 23 February to 4 July

UCAS Extra is a useful way to add another choice if you've changed your mind about where you would like to study, or didn't get the offer you wanted.

Who can use Extra

Extra can be used once you have received decisions on all five UCAS choices. If you were not successful with your five choices, you can use Extra. You can also use Extra if you decide to decline all the offers you received.

If you did not use all five choices in your initial application then you don't need to use Extra, you can just sign in to your application and add another choice, as long as it’s before 30 June, and you’ve not accepted or declined any offers.

How to apply with UCAS Extra
  • Check if a University has places. To do this just click “Show courses in Extra” on the left land side of the UCAS search tool.
  • Add the details in UCAS.
  • If you receive an offer reply to it using your UCAS Hub. If you accept then that offer is yours.
  • If you decline then you can start the extra process again and keep going until you get a place or it closes on 4 July.

Helpful tips
  • You don’t need to apply to use UCAS Extra; if you’re eligible, the “Add Extra Choice” button will automatically appear in the Choices section of your UCAS tracking page.
  • If you are applying for a different subject you may want to send a new personal statement to the new institution to support your application.
  • As you can only apply for one at a time, you won’t be able to pick a first choice and an insurance offer like in the first round of applications.
