Listening Together: Practices for Community-Centred Listening

Listening Together: Practices for Community-Centred Listening is a day-long symposium, which considers ways of listening to, through and with each other. The event questions what listening together means and as researchers, artists and facilitators, what role(s) we can play in (de)constructing collective aural realities. The event opens with keynote speaker, scholar and artist Cathy Lane, who asks ‘what responsibility [do] we, as communities of artists, academics and researchers, have to the silenced and the un- and under-heard?’

This will be followed by a series of in-conversations with socially engaged artists, authors, composers and producers, plus a live performance. Listening Together will offer a space to reflect on aural practices and their potential to initiate social shifts. This symposium is a Techne event, supported by Creative Research in Sound Arts Practice (CRiSAP), UAL.
